The USTA has a new league program called “USTA Flex Leagues,” and it was designed to help players fit tennis into their busy lives. The concept is similar to the Mercer County Summer League, wherein players sign up for their level in singles or doubles, receive a schedule, and plan directly with their opponent the time (and in this case, venue) to play. Flex players will post scores online. There are no playoffs.
The 26th Annual Princeton Tennis Classic was moved indoors Thursday, and it turned out so well that no one seemed to notice the rain. Gwen Guidice, executive director of the Princeton Tennis Program, said this is the first time in her 14 years that the whole day of doubles was forced inside. The irony of it was that they were able to move to their own club. PTP bought the Princeton Indoor Tennis Center in December.
At the May 1 annual gala, Building a Future for our Youth, The National Junior Tennis League of Trenton raised over $300,000 to continue its significant work with children in the Trenton area. At the same time, it was able to recognize early pioneers of the program and showcase its youth, many of whose involvement in the program has been a life-altering experience.
The USTA Middle States/New Jersey District is seeking new volunteers to be on the board of directors or on various committees to grow tennis in the district. For more information, contact NJD prez Ellen Williams at ellenwilliams47@verizon.net.
